Onboarding
The onboarding is the first impression the person gets when she/he starts working with the company. And we all know how important the first impression is. The onboarding is a great opportunity to get the person motivated and engaged about what the company is doing – and it is a great one – as the employee has just joined and is naturally inclined to connect with the new organization and shine in the new role. It is also a significant risk to extinguish the individual’s excitement and put unexpected barriers, obstacles and other unpleasantries in place. It is appropriate to ask, what do we make of this great opportunity and how do we manage this significant risk.
A successful onboarding will balance the TELLING part, which informs the employee about the company and its expectations (rules, corporate values, procedures, admin and logistical info) with WELCOMING aspect, which promotes the organization, highlights the alignment of the values to the individual’s, showcases aspects of the organizational greatness, and tells the individual how she/he is pivotal to the company achieving its goals and making the world a better place.
